The SG Standard '61 pays homage to its iconic roots by embracing its classic design, which has been admired and enjoyed across different generations and musical genres. When the Les Paul model was discontinued in 1961, the SG or "solid guitar" was introduced as a brand new design. The Gibson SG Standard '61 maintains the original style, featuring a SlimTaper mahogany neck and a bound rosewood fingerboard. The mahogany body has distinctively sculpted body scarfing, a 5-ply teardrop pickguard, and a 22nd-fret neck joint. The nickel-plated hardware comprises a traditional-style Tune-O-Matic bridge and Keystone tuners. The 60s Burstbucker humbuckers are the pickups of choice, providing a classic tone with extra power and high-end clarity. The controls incorporate audio taper potentiometers and Orange Drop capacitors.
